Emergency Hammer Box

Emergency Hammer Box

Pickersgill-Kaye have traditionally supplied emergency hammers as part of the passenger communication units on MK4 and Nightstock Coaches. The disadvantage of this being they are only accessible when the emergency handle is pulled.

We have now developed an emergency hammer box which will be fitted throughout the new Virgin Cross Country trains being built by Bombardier Transportation.

The hammer is located in a powder coated aluminium dish and protected from improper use by an emergency break-glass panel. The break-glass panel is made from perspex and designed with safety in mind. When an attempt is made to break it, a tab will shear and by the use of a spring the glass is thrown clear. This patented system is widely used on our emergency egress devices for example the MK3 HST central door locking system. An indication of whether the box has been tampered with is provided by a red circle visible when the glass is in place but absent otherwise.
