During the visit Mr Benn was taken on a tour of the engineering company's facilities and heard about the history of the company which has been based in Leeds for over 150 years and which currently employs nearly 100 staff.

Mr Benn was keen to discover more about the potential uses of the new lock which Pickersgill-Kaye say can be used in any situation where security needs are paramount including prisons, police cells, custody suites and secure accommodation. It has recently undergone and passed the most rigorous tests to ensure that it meets the highest possible safety and performance standards.

Pickersgill-Kaye's managing director Peter Murphy said: "We are delighted that Mr Benn has taken the time to visit the factory and find out more about our work. He showed a real interest in our business and in the new custodial lock which is a major development for the company. The level of skill and engineering expertise of our staff, as well as our commitment to use that expertise to develop new products in a changing marketplace impressed him."
