Pickersgill-Kaye Ltd of Leeds has developed an automatic inside handle locking system for use on the passenger doors of Mk 3/HST InterCity train sets.
The system solves the twin-barrelled and age-old problems of reconciling passenger safety issues at exit doors with passenger inconvenience caused by the need to lower drop light windows and reach outside for the door handle.
An ergonomically and aesthetically designed handle is offered which releases the door lock from inside the vehicle. The locks are controlled by the train guard using electrical push buttons located at each vestibule. Pickersgill-Kaye Ltd has over 100 years' expertise with railway hinged door locks and in recent years has consolidated and enhanced its reputation for design and manufacture of innovative, robust and safe products and systems on today's railways.
This latest product is expected to generate great interest, particularly from train operators, and will be on show at Railtex 99.
