Back in 1994, Pickersgill-Kaye working with ADtranz in Derby, designed and manufactured a curved sliding door for the Strasbourg Tram project.
The door comprises of 2 overlapping glass leaves bonded top and bottom to aluminium powder painted capping pieces and in the middle to a waist rail which provides access to the locks. The top of the door runs in a channel section overhead and the bottom runs on separate stainless steel tracks mounted on a pedestal arrangement which is fixed directly to the vehicle floor.
The doors are manufactured to within 1mm of each other and can be adjusted to accommodate the vehicle structure by raising or lowering the pedestal assemblies at the bottom.
